A fine destination

The Vlaamse Liga tegen Kanker (VLK - Flemish League against Cancer) is the organisation behind the successful Kom op tegen Kanker (Stand up against Cancer) fund-raising campaigns. The VLK upholds the interests of cancer patients in Flanders and organises assistance and support for both patients and their families. In addition, the VLK is an active participant in research on cancer prevention and publishes an annual Research Report on Care Quality. Concerning cancer, the VLK is the speaking partner of the Flemish Government.

The VLK can only continue this work by depending on their many faithful donators and volunteers. Legacies are one of the most important sources of funds for the VLK. This is why the VLK asked KAN Design to devise a place of honour for the legators - the people that bequeathed their entire estate to the League - in a commemorative gallery in their auditorium.

Along the side where guests enter the auditorium, the wall has been painted a sober dark grey colour. KAN Design had glass panels placed on this wall, on which all bequeathers' names have been engraved. Warm lighting behind the glass panels provides a warm glow to the installation, symbolising the affection and respect due to the legators. The system can be extended in years to come, allowing the League to continue recognising people who have made the fight against cancer their heir.
