Feeding the brand

One of our oldest clients, Oropharma started as a pharmaceutical company producing food supplements and medication for racing pigeons and other pet birds. Having recently been acquired by Versele-Laga, who produce a wide range of animal food and care products, the Oropharma brand has now been extended to cover the combined range of animal care products.

Having in the past designed all of Oropharma’s original packaging, KAN Design has now integrated the extended Oropharma line into the product range of Versele-Laga. An assignment which started with developing an entirely new and systematic look for the new packs as well as finding the best way of combining the two brands.

The Oropharma logo had its original pigeon symbol removed to make it accessible to products for other animals, while the Versele-Laga logo received subtle updates sympathetic to the intended direction of the new designs.

The packaging itself includes a systematic approach to identifying individual products, in which the main colour denotes the type of product while a series of silhouettes indicates the particular animal the product is intended for.

The overall design now has a smart, consciously-intended flavour of cosmetics packaging to it, taking it away from the rather specialised niche of pigeons and birds towards being a range of trustworthy products that will appeal to a much wider public of pet owners.

That the new design succeeds in doing so was proven when the new range was first introduced to the public at Anido, the Belgian national pet trade show. We are very pleased to hear that reactions were very enthusiastic, and that the visiting public voted for Oropharma to receive the 2008 Anido Award for new pet care products and accessories. For the best award we can get is when our customers get awards from their customers.
