Cure & care

The OPZ, Openbaar Psychiatrisch Ziekenhuis (Public Psychiatric Hospital) in Geel (coincidentally also the Dutch word for 'yellow') is especially known for its unique system of treating patients while these live with local host-families. Less well-known however, is the very wide and comprehensive range of psychiatric treatment options offered by OPZ. These are aimed at specific patient groups, and characterised by a typical "cure & care" approach, in which the patient is pathologically, humanly as well as socially brought to an acceptable level of functioning in society.

To reflect this evolution, KAN Design was invited to design a new graphic identity. The result is a completely new approach, in which colour plays a central role: yellow and warm grey for the organisation itself, together with a palette of warm colours to use in communication to the four patient groups (adults, elderly, youngsters and rehabs). The logo itself has been typographically reworked and coupled to a recognisable system, in which all communicative components play their specific part and yet form a comprehensive whole.

The emphasis on colour in this corporate design project results in a warm and humane identity that has its main focus on the patient.
