Liquid car

The DuPont Corporation has a long history of delivering high-quality paint coatings to the automotive industry, and is the world’s largest manufacturer in this field. A great many cars on the road today -as well as trucks, trains and other vehicles- owe their bright and durable finish to state-of-the-art, often patented, DuPont technology.

This same technology is being made available for car repairs by DuPont Refinish. Next to several ranges of quality paint, associated products and all the equipment required to prepare this for use, DuPont Refinish customers can benefit from the vast expertise and know-how built up over the years on every conceivable aspect of the refinishing business.

DuPont is a very large corporation, which also happens to own a few other brands of refinish paint. Since DuPont Refinish is the world’s single largest supplier of refinish coatings and sytems, it felt a need for some identification of its own, reflecting its importance and value to the refinishing sector.

The assignment was given to one of the world’s top-5 advertising agencies. But, in view of the long and successful relation between DuPont Refinish and KAN Design, we were also asked to come up with a solution. And won hands down, not only due to the quality of the design, but also because of our flexibility and the direct communication with our designers.

Known as the "liquid car", the new symbol combines effectively with the new "More than just paint" slogan, while not conflicting with the DuPont oval trademark, one of the best-known logos in history. Because of this history, DuPont Refinish continues to be identified by the DuPont oval in the Americas. But from Europe to the Far East, the liquid car is now also widely recognised as a symbol of quality and expertise in the refinishing business.

The liquid car and the graphic identity built around it have been developed for the following applications, all made available in an online design manual :
- brochures and various other publications
- the DuPont Refinish website
- POS/POP-type identification for use by body shops
- sponsorship identification
- numerous promotional items
- a series of sub-icons tying in with specific product lines (liquid truck, liquid train etc).

KAN Design is most pleased to have received a European Eulda award, recognising the DuPont Refinish liquid car identity as the best design made in Belgium before 2006.
